LEGTA Le Chesnoy - Site Les Barres

"Le Domaine des Barres", which used to be the National School of Forest Engineers, is located in France in the « région » “Centre” at about 100 kilometres south of Paris and 80 kilometres east of Orléans (Loiret).

Managed by the French Department of Agriculture, our school now focuses on two High National Diplomas :

- Forestry Management (about 60 students).

- Nature and Wildlife Conservation (about 70 students).

Most of the students stay at the boarding school even during weekends.

Though being an agricultural school, the school is located on the verge of the small city of Nogent sur Vernisson, Loiret. Nogent sur Vernisson is a small city of about 2 000 inhabitants, set in a rural district.

The school is also located near the “Arboretum National des Barres” managed by the National Forest Office. This arboretum contains about 8,000 specimens representing 2,700 species and varieties. It is one of the most complete tree collections in Europe and one of the top ten arboretum in the world. Its extensive collection includes oaks (109 species), hawthorns (92), maples (85), spruces (57), pines (54), and firs (44).

Thanks to this ideal location our students have all the opportunities to study trees and wildlife in good condition.

Many thanks to Mr F.Owona and Mr F.Mesure
